İLÇE TARİHİ
Sulusaray (Sebastopolis) Tokat il merkezine 69 km, Artova İlçe merkezine 30 km, Yeşilyurt İlçe merkezine 11 km. uzaklıkta, 20 Mayıs 1990 tarihinde Yeni İlçe olmuş yerleşim yeridir. İlçe etrafı dağlarla çevrili bir ova üzerinde, Çekerek ırmağı kenarındadır. Antik Sebastopolis kentinin kuruluşu henüz kesin olarak bilinmemektedir. Bazı kaynaklarda M.Ö.1. yüzyılda kurulmuş olduğu kayıt edilmektedir. Roma İmparatoru Trajan zamanında (M.S. 98-117) Pontus Galaticus'la, Polemoniacus eyaletlerinden ayrılarak Capadokia eyaletine dahil edilmiştir. Bu konudaki kitabe Capadokia Valisi Arrian adına şehrin ileri gelenleri ve halkı tarafından dikilmiştir. Sebastopolis kelime olarak Yunancadır. Sebasto; büyük, azametli; polis; şehir anlamında olup, Büyük azametli şehir demektir. Bazı kaynaklarda Heraclepolis olarak geçmektedir ki bu konuda şehrin kuzeyindeki Çekerek Irmağı üzerinde kurulu köprüde bir kitabe yer almakta olduğu belirtilmektedir. Heraclepolis, Herakles şehri anlamına gelmektedir. Heracles Yunan ve Roma mitolojisinde gücü kuvveti simgeleyen yarı tanrı bir varlıktır. Bu anlamı ile Sebastopolis ile aynı manayı ifade eder.
COĞRAFİ YAPI
Sulusaray ilçesi Orta Karadeniz Bölgesi içerisinde bulunan Tokat Vilayetine bağlı bir ilçedir. Doğusunda Yeşilyurt ilçesi - Batısında Yozgat ili Kadı şehri ilçesi- Güneyinde Sivas ili Yıldızeli ilçesi - Kuzeyinde Artova ilçesi toprakları ile sınır komşudur. İlçemiz Sulusaray ekvator olarak 40 derece enlem 36 derece boylam paralellerindedir. Nüfusu 2012 genel nüfus sayımına göre 3.374'dür. Tokat il merkezine uzaklığı 69 km. dir. En yakın ilçe Yeşilyurt ilçesi olup, uzaklığı ise 11 km.dir.
EKONOMİK YAPI
İlçemizin ekonomik olarak geçim kaynağı tarım ve hayvancılığa dayalıdır. Genel olarak büyükbaş hayvancılığın yağıldığı ilçemizde az da olsa küçükbaş hayvancılığı da yapılmaktadır. Tarımda ise genel olarak pancar ve fiğ ekimi yapılmaktadır. İlçemizde en yaygın yapılan pancar ekimidir. İlçemizde yaşayan insanların gelir düzeyi çoğunlukla dar kesimli kişilerden oluşmaktadır.

İlçeye bağlı bir kasaba ve 14 köy bulunmaktadır. İlçe, kasaba ve köylerin genel olarak yerleşim durumu iyidir. Toplu haldedirler. Mezra ve oba bağlılığı yoktur.
